Nits! nits! nits!?

i have tried every nit shampoo on the market. i've even brought expensive aroma therapy pure essential oils. i've changed the bed sheets, bath towels, cleaned brushes throughly and vaccumed........etc etc!

i've used baby oil, cheap conditioner and hair spray, to leave in the hair, but nothing has seemed to be working to keep them out.

i do mine and my daughters hair 1-2 times a week!!!!

but still my children have headlice constantly.

has any1 got the answer as to getting rid of them for good without shaving our heads??

Nits! nits! nits!?

I dealt with lice in may daughter's hair for a year. Forget the RID shampoo and the prescription shampoo...they don't work. Use mayonnaise. Yup, that's right, good old mayo. Here's how I did it...

Slather the mayo all over the head from scamp to the ends. It's cheap (use the store brand) so slather it on. Wrap head in plastic wrap...wrap it tight, you are going to be sleeping in it. By slathering the mayo and wrapping in plastic wrap you will suffocate those da*n lice and KILL THEM! Sleep in your mayo laiden, plastic wrapped head. In the morning wash hair. Then start picking out dead bugs and nit pick. There is no easy way to do this. It takes time but it is a must. I did the mayo treatment every other day for a week (remember it had been a YEAR...I wanted to be sure) and I nit-picked EVERY DAY. I got rid of them.

Now you need to wash all the bedding and clothes in HOT water and dry them on HOT. Wash the pillows and animals toys or stuffed animals that can be washed. Any stuffed animals that cannot be washed you need to bag up, tie the top really tight and leave in your garage for 3-6 months. They need blood to survive so this length of time should kill them. You need to vacuum everything...the carpet, the mattress, the furniture, etc. If they are living in your couch and you don't vacuum your couch and get them out you will be infested again.

Remember that lice like CLEAN HAIR so having lice has nothing to do with being dirty. My daughter was freaked and this info helped her deal a little better. Once you get rid of them spray some hairspray in hair...the lice don't like hairspray.

If you live in the LA, San Francisco or New York area there is a salon specializing in nit picking. My next stop was going to be there is the mayo didn't work. Check out their website, it's got some good info.

I've been in your shoes and this is the only treatment that worked. It is non-toxic and cheap. I wish you all the best of luck. Man I hate lice!!!

Nits! nits! nits!?

you have to kill the headlice, not just soap will get rid of it. you have to go through and kill all the little "bugs" by pinching them and what not. then when all are gone wash to make sure they don't come back

Nits! nits! nits!?

When my kids were in school, one little girl in my daughters class kept getting it, of course every time we got the letter from the school mine stayed home the next day and went to my mothers salon to be checked. The school finally had to tell them to take her to the doctor, there are lice that can not be killed by the stuff you buy at the drug store. You have to get a prescription from the doctor. And everything has to be washed in Hot water. And I am sure it won't hurt to bug bomb your home to get rid of them.

Nits! nits! nits!?

you have to sit and pick there hair out it took my mom eight hours to do my hair when i was young also she doused m ahir in gasoline

Nits! nits! nits!?

i would call the doctor and ask them if they could give me something stronger. Also nothing gets the nits out really accept combing and combing with a fine tooth lice comb. They also have a comb on the market that has some type of electricty or something like that , they they say they use in daycares and camps. Make sure all the stuff animals are getting taken out. and I would recommend using a cocconut shampoo , we use that and my kids have never got it, even when the parent calls and says guess what susie has lice. I strip and do everything just as a precautionary, and do all of our heads just in case.

Good luck , I feel for your stress

Nits! nits! nits!?

Someone they are coming into contact with keeps reinfesting them. Inform the school that they attend maybe (you have to here in Australia)and ask their close friends parents to check their childrens heads. You've done everything you can, standard proceedure is treat with nit shampoo... comb through with a nit comb to help remove the nits and eggs and retreat 7 days later to kill off the larvae that have hatched before they are old enough to lay eggs. No shampoo kills the eggs (even the ones that say they do), you have to break the cycle by retreating in 7 days... a cheaper solution is to get a massive bottle of cheap conditioner and slather their hair in it and treat as you would with a nit shampoo, it works on the same principal as the expensive shampoos by smothering the nits. Keep trying, inform the other parents... i worked in a chemist/drugstore for 7 years... you're not alone! Its usually someone re-infecting them.

Nits! nits! nits!?

You are probably not killing them all, and they just reproduce. When you wash linens and such, are you using HOT water? As in 140 or more? When you use the shampoo, and you using the comb and going over the hair (yours too) in little sections over and over? Adding some bleach (only a little) to all towels and sheet and clothes? Putting all hats in the dishwasher ? (Sounds weird but what ever works.) I don't know if this works, but I know someone who swears by it. Warm olive oil (must be olive oil, the extra virgin kind) comb it all through the hair, saturating it totally. Wrap head in plastic wrap (not face, just all the hair piled up on the scalp) and then a warm towel for 30 minutes. Then unwrap and use the little nit comb. I can't promise it will work, but it is harmless. Oh, just a tip from me, if you try it, make sure you have dawn dish washing soap to wash the olive oil out of your hair. good luck.

Nits! nits! nits!?

Olive oil. Lots of olive oil. load everyone's hair, put a plastic bag or shower cap over it and set the timer for at least an hour. Take every stuff animal and put in plastic bags (air tight) for a minimum of 3 weeks. Spray all matteress both sides, every cloth covered chair and couch. At this point I would suggest spraying the rugs as well. Vacume after spray has dried. Change the bag on your vacume as soon as you are done, and remove it from your home. Wash everything again in hot water and dry on hot. Throw away all the bed pillows and buy new cheep ones, throw away all the brushes %26amp; combs as well. Don't forget to wash jackets, hoodies, scarfs, hats...if it doesn't move wash it, if it does move, treat it.

Don't let anyone on any funiture until it and they have been treated. Then you comb comb comb. Do it in the kitchen or bathroom where there is no carpet. Then treat them all again the next day. Don't let them play with anyone or go to anyone's house until they are free and clear. You may have to treat them every week or so for a few weeks to truly get rid of it all. It's a big job and a heartbreaker. I have heard of people using flea %26amp; tic shampoo, as well as coloring hair to kill them. Lice are becomming immune to all the over the counter stuff....some people even have suggested mayo although I have never seen that work. Good luck %26amp; best wishes....

Nits! nits! nits!?

Use diatomaceous earth around your home, and apply the essential oils EVERY DAY.

This should kill any lice in your home, and hopefully the essential oils will stop her getting re-infested at school.
