As a jeweler, I recommend skipping the toohpaste. Some are very abrasive and hard on the gold. A softer toothbrush after soaking the ring in hot water with a little ammonia is the safest way. A qualified jeweler can ultrasound, buff and steam your jewelry to a better than new look in no time!

toothbrush and toothpaste are the best

the toothbrush foams up and gets into the nooks and crannys and is slightly abrasive and the tothbush helps to release the build up

You have two options.

1. Take it to any jewelry store, and ask to have it cleaned. Many store will do it for free. Others charge a minimal amount, usually $10-20.

2. Invest in a good jewelry cleaner made for diamonds, and clean it yourself. You don't need any fancy equipment to do this. You can buy any solution from a store, even Wal-Mart, to do this. Just make sure you follow the instructions before you start.

I personally prefer Connoisseurs for at home cleaning once a month, then take things once or twice a year to have them professionally cleaned. This keeps my jewelry looking good year round, with minimal maintence. And the yearly visits to the professional insure that no stones are loose, settings are still in good condition, the metal hasn't developed any weak spots, ets...

OK I'm sorry but don't put toothpaste on it unless you really can't afford to go buy a little jar of gold %26amp; silver jewelry cleaner. $5 or less found at Wal-Mart, Target and so on. Works great and comes with instructions and a little scrub brush.
